Many thanks to all who participated in this fun guessing game. The Ice-Out Prediction Contest was a huge success and in all honesty made waiting for the ice to come out up here in Muskoka much more bearable.

Due to a cold introduction to spring not many people predicted an April ice-out date with most of the entry dates ranging from May 2nd to the latest prediction of May the 10th. In history the latest ice-out date ever recorded, according to the Lake Joseph chart was May 4th, 1956. The earliest was March 23rd, 2012.

Heavy wind, waves and rain on the 28th of April gave the ice the nudge it needed. You can take my word for it. Why am I not posting a picture of the ice-free area between Red Leaves, Cleveland’s House and Ouno Island you ask? The answer is simple: this fair weather fellow is not standing out in the cold wind and rain to snap a photo. Go ahead, tease me.

I am pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 Ice-Out Contest. Bob Cawston correctly guessed April 29th. Bob and Doreen have been cottaging in Muskoka for more than a decade and have come to love the area. Currently without a cottage to call home I'll do my best to get them into the perfect place!

The Port Carling Golf and Country Club is known for their fabulous food, ambiance and great wine. With that in mind I will also supply a designated driver to pick Bob and Doreen up and deliver them back safely to wherever they are staying in Muskoka.
