September in Muskoka
That’s what it comes down to now for most cottagers. Children are back to school, adults are back to work having used up all of their vacation time to be here in Muskoka. What a terrific summer we had ... the perfect mix of sunshine, heat and rain to keep the gardens green.
Residents of Lakes Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph have a tradition every year around this time. It is called “Take Back the Lake”. Now this doesn’t mean we don’t welcome cottagers. We thrive on tourism and need the summer traffic. We simply consider this a celebration of another successful summer season. Local restaurants, shops and tourist attractions have worked hard to make Muskoka a top Ontario summer destination and to ensure cottagers have all the amenities to make summer comfortable.
Peace and Serenity
September is my favorite month in Muskoka - less traffic heading north, fewer (if any) boats cruising the lakes and more opportunity for tranquility. While I enjoy family time boating, most of my time on the water is spent working. Not that I’m complaining! However, on Tuesday September 5th, myself, my wife and friends of ours had a gorgeous day boating the lakes. No waves, no wake boarders or wake-surfers. Virtually - not a ripple on the water. The ladies made us a picnic lunch of Milford Bay Smoked Trout, fine cheese, toasts, fruit and veggies with dip along with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the spectacular summer of 2016.
I’m telling you this because (in my opinion) September is a fantastic month to take a vacation and enjoy the beauty of Muskoka. Check out Windermere Beach to laze in the sun or throw the Frisbee. Slip into a spa for a relaxing afternoon without having to book an appointment 2 months in advance. There are some great spas in and around the lakes; Touchstone overlooking Lake Muskoka, Spa Rosseau at the JW Marriott, and Sanctuary at Windermere. At any of these spas you can also have a great meal after your treatment. So, with the kiddies back to school why not head north for some well-deserved R & R. As an added bonus, the shops of Muskoka are hosting their “end of summer” sales!
