Muskoka Jack - Seasonal Nomad 2017/18
Many of you may be wondering where this seasonal nomad is hanging his hat this winter. Believe me, that hat is not a toque! Last year we stayed close to home, spending the winter in the Caribbean. This year we are back in the South Pacific. Based in Fiji for the first three months, then Queenstown, (much akin to Muskoka) New Zealand from January until April. A new addition to my Evolving Bucket List, we are looking forward to exploring this part of the world. We return to Muskoka early April in time to prepare for the 2018 cottage real estate season.
Professionally, 2017 was another stellar year for me and I very much appreciate your loyalty and referrals. Despite a lack of product on the market I was able to assist many of my buyers and sellers in realizing their Muskoka cottage property goals.
One thing I’ve been meaning to mention. Some of my clients ask why they don’t see my face in the plethora of magazines inundating the docks and door knobs of Muskoka. You’ll recall, many of these print magazines had disappeared with the introduction of digital media. This trend obviously didn’t last, and new print publications have been popping out like blackflies in May. It’s become a pet peeve for me, especially given the fact that many of these “dock deliveries” end up in our lakes.
I’d like to point out, realtor’s faces and even our listings in a magazine are not what sells a property. Personal advertising has become a contest between realtors as to who can spend the most money on self-promotion. much of the "advertorial" content is paid for by the individual or company being featured. Trust me, I could go on and on about this subject. Suffice it to say, just because you don’t see my mug-shot in a magazine doesn’t mean I’ve hung up my hat.
2017 Muskoka Cottage Market
Overall, the 2017 Muskoka cottage real estate market was strong, especially in the $4,000,000 + range. With properties under $1M in high demand. I’ll have a complete overview of stats for you in January. Until then, happy holidays!
